From the beginning of 2018 starts the mandate of Pierre Pienaar, the new president of WPO and other members of the Executive Board, whos names he announced on their second yearly meeting in November in Brazil. He stated that the global issue of food waste should partially be resolved through education and more ecologically acceptable packagings. Under the pressure of public opinion, more and more companies are embracing this shift and try to act accordingly. World Packaging Organization also hosted the ceremony for winners of WorldStar 2018 awards, which included CROPAK winners Studio Grozić, Studio Sonda and HAND dizajn. According to Pienaar, they have developed and expanded the WorldStar awards during the last few years to that extent that his focus will be primarily on improving and simplifying the judging process. Current president Thomas Schneider predicts that consumerism will still be a big factor in shaping world trends and that the packaging industry needs to find a sustainable strategy which will acquire the respect of the consumer society.
